Making life easier
Innovative solutions to keep you independent
GM Adapt specialises in providing vehicle adaptations to making accessing your vehicle or driving your vehicle easier. GM Adapt is part of the GM Coachwork Group which has been changing lives for over 30 years.
Where it all began
GM Coachwork was established in 1988 and is now a renowned leader in wheelchair adapted vehicles and bespoke modifications.
We at GM Adapt aim to make travelling easier through the installation of vehicle adaptations, making peoples lives easier on a daily basis.
Wind the clock forward to 2008 and GM designed the world’s first, and still the only, low floor conversion of a VW Caravelle. This formed the foundation for a range of new disabled driver vehicles, starting with the Colorado and followed by the Nevada. During this time, the adaptations side of the business grew, serving main dealers and private customers with vehicle adaptation solutions.
In 2011 GM designed the world’s first scooter lockdown device – the Scoot ‘N’ Stop – and today it’s still the only one. This followed by the GM Touch Screen Gear Selector and the GM Multi-function Touchpad.
In 2018, GM reached a 30-year milestone and we have grown to become a firmly established nationwide leading vehicle convertor.
GM Coachwork offers the biggest range of wheelchair accessible vehicles in the UK from the compact, best-selling Citroen Berlingo Blaze right up to the luxurious VW Caravelle Monterey and Mercedes V Class. GM is also a leader in drive-from wheelchair vehicles, boasting the widest choice of low-floor disabled driver vehicles.
When you book your car in with us our experienced team of advisers and support staff will help you all the way. We’ll keep you up-to-date right throughout the process. When we have a confirmed completion date, we’ll call you to arrange collection or delivery to your door if you need it.
We’ve put together some helpful short videos to show you just what’s possible. Take a look at our videos page to see how the adaptations for cars (and vans) work, as well as how easy they are to use.
Yes we can! As experts in vehicle adaptations and modifications, our team will listen to your needs to advise you on the options we have available to suit your requirements.
At GM Coachwork, we offer adapted cars (also known as WAVs) suited for wheelchair accessibility. Some of these adapted cars are available under the Motability scheme, so be sure to check if you’re eligible. For more information on this, visit GM Mobility.
